What is Your Brand?

Creating a brand for oneself isn’t just for celebrities or social media influencers; it isn’t just for that mom of three that you follow on Instagram that has a cooking podcast. Just because it is called branding doesn’t mean that it is what you think of as the textbook definition of branding. Branding yourself is just creating a “polished” version of yourself. It is how you want to be seen to others no matter how they come across you. Whether it’s social media, LinkedIn, or some random subreddit. A personal brand is just who you are. But to create your brand, you have to figure out what it is.

Do you like to bake? Is your career your life? Is photography something you do whenever you can? What is the biggest thing there is that makes you, you? For some, their brand is being a fashion blogger. Wherever they can be found on the internet, it better be associated with fashion in some capacity. For others, it’s being a travel nurse and conversing on topics related to their field. Even if your brand is just being a mom, stick to it. Incorporate your values into your brand and hold them up high. People should be able to know who you are and what you care about; you don’t want there to be any confusion.

Your brand is you. Don’t shape your brand to be someone you aren’t. Conform your brand to you, not the other way around. Remember, this is how you are perceived across the world wide web. Be authentic. There’s a million people in the world with their own personal brands, don’t be the one to copy them.
